Coronis donates thousands of dollars’ worth of household items to Domestic Violence Charity
South East Queensland real estate group, Coronis, rallied together throughout the month of May to collect household items for Friends With Dignity and their #StepUpForFriends campaign during Domestic & Family Violence Prevention Month.
Chief Operating Officer Karuna Dimelow said she was beyond proud of what the team had achieved, with the size of the donation worth thousands of dollars.
“When we were choosing the charities we wanted to support this year, Friends With Dignity really stood out to us as they do an amazing job helping so many families in the community without a single dollar of government funding,” Ms Dimelow said.
“The stats on domestic violence in our community are really confronting – one in three women, one in four children and one and five men are affected by domestic violence, so when we considered that we have more than 16,000 tenants, 8000 landlords and we work with 4000 buyers and sellers every year, a significant number of our clients could have been affected so we wanted to do something that made a difference.
“The response from our team was just incredible, not only did collect hundreds of items for the bathroom, kitchen, linen cupboard, laundry and bedrooms, some of them also pooled their money together to purchase expensive whitegoods as they had to brand new.
“I think we donated well over 50 microwaves, fridges, vacuum cleaners, toasters, kettles, slow cookers and heaters which is really amazing.”
Friends With Dignity Chief Operating Office Zoe Scharenguivel said they were overwhelmed by the size of the donation.
“When Coronis approached us and said they wanted to partner with us for our #StepUpForFriends campaign, we were really excited but we’ve been blown away by their generosity,” Mrs Scharenguivel said.
“We first spoke about loading the donations into a few cars but in the end they had to hire a moving truck to deliver everything to our warehouse as there was just so much.
“On behalf of Friends With Dignity, I just want to say a big thank you to all of the Coronis team across their 27 offices, we’re just so appreciative of everything you have done to help us raise awareness of domestic violence and all your donations.
“All these household items will help our volunteers furnish so many sanctuaries for women, men and children displaced by domestic and family violence.
“We’ve now completely furnished 447 sanctuaries since we started in 2015 which would not have been possible without the support of the community and organisations like Coronis, so thank you so much for all your donations and help.”
